Lensmark
Privacy Policy
Effective July 13, 2026
Lensmark is operated by DAGNOSTICS LLC ("Lensmark," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Lensmark, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices and rights you have. Questions? Email dag@lensmark.ai.
Lensmark turns a photo or a question into a verified, sourced history of what you are looking at: a landmark, a building, a monument, a work of art, or a site. To do that well, we collect the photo, the signals your device attaches to it, and the questions you ask, and we use trusted providers to identify the subject and research its story.
The short version
- We collect the photos you capture or upload, the location and metadata attached to them, the questions you ask, and your account details.
- We use that information to identify what is in your photo, research its verified history, and improve the accuracy of our answers.
- We do not sell your personal information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not share it between users or hand it to third parties for their own purposes.
- We rely on a small set of named service providers (cloud, AI, and payments) that process data only on our behalf, under contract.
- You can review, export, and delete your information at any time.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information. When you sign in, we collect the details from your chosen method: your email address, and depending on the method, your name, profile photo, phone number, and the identity provider you used (Google, Apple, phone, or email code). Sign-in is required; we do not allow anonymous identifications.
- Photos and images. The photos you capture in the app or choose to upload so we can identify their subject.
- Questions and messages. The text you type, captions you add, follow-up questions, and any feedback you send us.
- Payment information. When you buy credits or a subscription, our payment processor (Stripe) collects and handles your payment details. We receive limited billing records, not your full card number.
Information attached to your photos and device
- Location information. Photos often carry embedded metadata (EXIF), including GPS coordinates, location accuracy, compass heading, and the time the photo was taken. When you grant permission, we also use your device's live location. We use this precise location to work out where a photo was actually taken and to identify the subject in front of you.
- Camera and photo access. With your permission, Lensmark accesses your camera to take a photo and your photo library to let you choose one. We only receive the specific photos you capture or select.
- Device and technical information. Device and browser type and settings, operating system, app version, unique identifiers, IP address, language, and crash and diagnostic logs.
- Usage information. How you interact with the Service, including the subjects you identify, the results shown, timing and performance metrics, and error reports.
Information we generate
- Your history. A record of the places and subjects you have identified, kept so you can revisit them.
- Derived data. Machine representations of your photos and text (for example, numerical embeddings) used to match and retrieve information efficiently.
2. How we use information
- Provide the Service: identify the subject in your photo, pinpoint where it stands, and produce its verified, sourced history.
- Run our identification pipeline: send your photo and its metadata to the AI and recognition providers listed in Section 4 so they can propose and verify an answer.
- Research and ground answers: run targeted searches keyed to the verified subject so that dates, names, and claims come from retrieved sources rather than guesses.
- Improve accuracy and build our knowledge base: use verified identifications to improve our results and to build a shared corpus of knowledge about places and works. This corpus is information about subjects in the world, not information about you. Where we use your own photos or interactions to train or improve our models, we do so only with your consent, which you can give or withdraw in your settings.
- Personalize your experience: remember your place history and keep your conversations coherent across turns.
- Handle billing: process payments, track credit usage, and keep financial records.
- Keep the Service safe: detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security or technical problems, and enforce our Terms.
- Communicate with you: send service messages such as security alerts, billing notices, and important changes.
- Comply with law: meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
3. Location information, in detail
Because location is how Lensmark verifies answers, we want to be specific:
- We read location and related metadata (GPS, accuracy, heading, capture time) from the original photo you provide.
- We use your device's live location only when you grant permission, and only to help identify what is near you.
- A photo chosen from your library that has no location data does not silently borrow your current location; absence of a location signal is treated as absence, not filled in from elsewhere.
- We treat precise geolocation as sensitive information and use it only to provide and improve the Service, never for advertising.
You can turn location access on or off at any time in your device or browser settings.
4. The service providers we rely on
To operate Lensmark we use a small set of trusted providers. They act as our processors: they handle your information only to perform work for us, under contract, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes or to sell it. We share only what each provider needs to do its job.
- Cloud infrastructure, database, authentication, and storage: Supabase.
- AI reasoning, description, and grounded research: Anthropic (Claude).
- Image recognition, place resolution, geocoding, and map imagery: Google Cloud.
- AI identification: Google Gemini.
- Search and text embeddings: OpenAI.
- Payments: Stripe.
- Sign-in identity providers: Google and Apple, when you choose them to sign in.
Using these providers is not selling or sharing your data with third parties for their own use. It is how the Service functions.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for cross-context or targeted advertising. We do not share your personal information between users. Your photos, your questions, and your place history are yours and private to you.
We share information only in these limited situations:
- With service providers, as described in Section 4, who process it on our behalf.
- When you choose to share. If you choose to make a result public (for example, a shareable page about a place), that page contains information about the subject, not your identity or your personal photos, unless you explicitly include them.
- For legal reasons, when we have a good-faith belief that disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, legal process, or an enforceable government request; to enforce our Terms; to detect or address fraud, security, or technical issues; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Lensmark, our users, or the public.
- In a business transfer. If Lensmark is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, we will continue to protect your personal information and give you notice before it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
6. Your choices and rights
- Review and update. You can review and update your account information in your settings.
- Consent for improvement. Using your own content to train or improve our models is opt-in. You can give or withdraw that consent at any time in your settings; withdrawing it does not affect the core Service.
- Location. You control camera, photo, and location access through your device or browser permissions.
- Export your data. You can request and download a copy of your information from your account.
- Delete your data. You can delete individual items, or delete your entire account. When you delete your account, we remove your personal records and irreversibly anonymize the identification records we retain to operate and secure the Service.
- Communications. You can opt out of non-essential messages. We may still send essential service and security notices.
To exercise any of these rights, use the controls in the app or email dag@lensmark.ai. We verify your request by confirming you are signed in to your account.
7. How long we keep information
- We keep your account and the content you create until you delete them or close your account.
- We retain identification records to operate, secure, and improve the Service. Raw precise location is removed from these records, and on account deletion they are anonymized so they are no longer linked to you.
- Cached third-party place data is refreshed or deleted on a rolling window (for example, within 30 days) in line with our providers' terms.
- We keep some information for longer where necessary for legitimate business or legal purposes, such as security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, and financial record-keeping.
8. How we protect information
We build security into the Service. We encrypt data in transit, restrict access to the people and processes that need it, enforce row-level access rules in our database, and review our storage and processing practices. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information and to notify you if we detect a risk you should know about.
9. Children
Lensmark is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are under the age required to manage your own account in your country, you may use Lensmark only with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International data transfers
We operate the Service using providers whose servers may be located outside the country where you live. Data protection laws differ across countries. Wherever your information is processed, we apply the protections described in this policy and use appropriate safeguards for international transfers where required by law.
11. United States state privacy rights
Some U.S. state laws (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act) require specific disclosures.
- Categories of information we collect: identifiers (such as name, email, and device identifiers); account and profile details; commercial information (such as purchases and credits); internet and network activity; precise geolocation; audio, electronic, and visual information (the photos you provide); and inferences drawn to provide the Service. Sources and purposes are described in Sections 1 and 2.
- We do not sell or "share" your personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Sensitive information. We treat precise geolocation and the contents of your photos as sensitive and use them only to provide and improve the Service you request, as permitted by law.
- Your rights. Subject to applicable law, you have the right to know, access, obtain a copy, correct, and delete your information, and to not be treated differently for exercising these rights. To make a request, use the in-app controls or email dag@lensmark.ai.
12. Europe, the UK, and Switzerland
If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, we process your personal information on these legal bases: performance of a contract (to provide the Service); consent (for optional uses such as improving our models, which you may withdraw); legitimate interests (such as securing the Service and preventing abuse); and legal obligation. You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Email dag@lensmark.ai to exercise these rights.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new effective date and, if the changes are significant, provide a more prominent notice. We will not reduce your rights under this policy without your consent.
