What the de Young Museum collection covers
The de Young Museum brings American art, textiles and works from Africa, Oceania and the Americas into one Golden Gate Park building. It is one of the two Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Official site
The museum grew from the 1894 California Midwinter International Exposition and opened in 1895. Its current building, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, opened in 2005.
Its collection strengths include American art from the seventeenth century to today, arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, costume and textile arts, and works on paper and photography.
