What the Mucem collection covers

Mucem explores European and Mediterranean societies through objects, photographs, textiles and moving images. Opened in Marseille in 2013, it inherits collections from the Trocadéro ethnography museum and the national museum of popular arts and traditions. About the collections

Its public complex joins the J4 exhibition building to Fort Saint-Jean, while collections are also preserved at the Conservation and Resource Centre. A video about a Jerusalem schoolyard, an Olympic ceremony costume and an AIDS charity's auction catalogue show how art, performance and public life meet in its records.

Its collection strengths include European and Mediterranean popular culture, photography and graphic collections, and contemporary social-practice art.
